Caretta caretta
The loggerhead sea turtle is the most common marine turtle nesting in the Mediterranean. Every summer, females haul ashore on Cypriot beaches to lay their eggs. Adults can reach 90 cm in length and weigh up to 135 kg.
Phoenicopterus ruber
Thousands of greater flamingos visit Larnaca Salt Lake each winter, feeding on Artemia salina brine shrimp and Dunaliella salina microalgae — the organisms that give the lake its rich copper hue and provide the carotenoids responsible for the flamingo's pink plumage.
